In Commercial Design 1 we did a project creating the offices The American Heart Association corporate offices in Dallas, Texas. We also created a Go Red Clinic to go with the offices. Go Red is a heart healthy campaign for women's heart health.
Both spaces created were housed in buildings which had an ample amount of windows. This was incorporated to bring in a great deal of natural lighting. Exposure to natural light throughout the day improves overall health and daily activity. In my project, I also added lots of plants to the interior of the buildings as another way of bringing the outdoors in. I added built in fish tanks in the lobby areas of both buildings as a visual interest and because fish tanks in interior spaces have been noted to have a calming effect on people.
In this project we learned more about space planning. We improved skills on CAD, improved in using programs like Google sketch up, Podium , and Photo Shop. Some facts we learned were the importance of natural lighting to personal health and mood, and how to incorporate healthier life styles into a work environment.

I am currently doing a design project for Holly and Mark Woodward of High Point, NC. I will be re-designing their 1930s home. Holly is an Interior Designer herself and has designed furniture during part of her career. The Woodwards have several pieces of furniture that they would like to keep in their space especially the ones designed by Holly. They also have several pieces of art work done by Mark's grandmother that they would like incorporated into their design.
My job is to enhance their current styles of Classic, Traditional and Mid-century while bringing a fresh new look to their home. Some inspirational images that I am currently thinking of for incorporating into their space are as follows:

After looking at lots of color trends for spring 2012, I have found five colors that seem to be making a big statement . The trends seem to be going botanical and natural, as well as a little more suttle than last year. My favorite five are: Botanical Greens, Corals, Dark blues, Blush Pinks and Yellow Greens.
Furnishing styles for Spring 2012 seem to be natural and simple clean lines. Mid Century Modern furnishings really seem to lend themselves to this trend.
Trends in accessories add a pop of color for spring 2012 or a back to nature look which brings the outdoors indoors.
